Unit 3 Reflection

Unit 3 was about cells, and more specifically, what organelles are in cells and what important processes they do. The main important processes this unit focused on were photosynthesis and cellular respiration. This unit essentially taught us how these processes worked, what organelles did within a cell, and generally give us a more specific look at a cell's organelles' functions and locations. Chapter 7 in unit 3 taught me the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotes have no nucleus, and eurkayotes have a nucleus. Chapter 8 in unit 3 taught me the photosynthesis equation, carbon dioxide and water with light produces glucose and oxygen. I also learned that photosynthesis only occurs in plant cells because they have chloroplasts; which is where photosynthesis takes place. Chapter 9 in unit 3 taught me that the cellular respiration equation is oxygen and glucose produces carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Cellular respiration is essentially the opposite of photosynthesis and it occurs in the mitochondria of both plant and animal cells.

My strengths in this chapter were taking diligent notes and watching every vodcast as well as doing all the CFU's. I also paid close attention in class to make sure I fully understood the concepts. My weaknesses were that I should have gotten more help with the concepts taught. I should have come in at tutorial to get the few little questions I still had answered. I also should have done my unit notes earlier. I did not remind myself to do them until the last minute. From these setbacks, I learned that I need to use tutorial more effectively and make sure I understand all of the concepts taught in class. I need to be more responsible. I also learned that I should make reminders for myself to do homework and unit notes. In the future, I should write down important homework assignments so I do not forget about them.

I still would like to learn about cellular respiration more. I feel we focused on photosynthesis more and I do not understand fully about cellular respiration still. I also was interested when we learned about hypertonic and hypotonic situations. I would like to learn more about the membranes of cells and how exactly they allow and do not allow certain molecules to enter and exit the cell. I am planning on rewatching all the vodcasts in preparation for the test, and also doing all the CFU's over again. I also plan on having my sister who has already taken Biology quiz me a few times. I will view the information before I go to bed and when I wake up so that I will remember it better. I will review the information multiple times so that I remember it more and understand it fully. I will eat a good breakfast the day of the test and get enough sleep. All these things will help ready me for the unit 3 test.
